Ma Shashti is a folk Goddess considered as the protector of children and is worshiped for wellbeing and long life of children. There are various types of Shashti Puja. Shashti Puja is done after Childbirth for shudhhi. This Shashti Puja or Chatti Puja is performed across many cultures almost all over India. Shashti Puja is also done in some form or the other in many eastern and southern parts of India. The very famous Chatt Puja of Bihar is also a form of her worship. Ma Shashti is often pictured as a motherly figure, riding a cat and carrying one or more infants. A cat is her Vahana. She is symbolically represented in a variety of forms, like an earthen pitcher, a banyan tree or a part of it or a red stone beneath such a tree. She is worshiped in outdoor spaces termed as Shashtitala. The folk worship representation of Ma Shashti is a red colored stone typically placed beneath a banyan tree or a small branch in the soil of a family's home garden. Other common representations of the Goddess include a Shaligram Stone, an earthen water pitcher, or a Purna Ghat – a water vase with an arrangement of coconut and mango leaves – generally set beneath a banyan tree.
