Teeq cave is located 57 kilometres NEE from Salalah in Dhofar Governorate. Teeq Cave is near the top of the sinkhole Tawi Ateer Sinkhole, popularly known as the ‘Bird Well’ and also one of the world’s largest sinkholes. Both Teeq cave and tawi Ateer Sinkhole are important tourist destinations. Tawi Ateer Sinkhole gained international fame after its discovery in 1997 by a team of Slovenian explorers in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University. This adds to the Sultanate’s rich biodiversity, its geographical and historical richness, and its historical and archaeological sites, as well as its remains of early civilization.
