Tawa chicken is traditionally made in a Tawa - as it’s name already reveals.
Tawa is a flat pan which is used for making bread called roti. My tawa is quite small, So I used a big frying pan.
This recipe is inspired by Ruby ka kitchen. Her recipes are amazing. I adjusted spices according to western taste buds.
Tawa Chicken
Ingredients (4 persons - 580 kcal, 61 G protein ,3 g net carbohydrates, 35 g fat)
2 tbsp Cooking oil
1 kg Chicken meat, small cubes of either
breast or thigh meat without skin and bone
2 medium-sized Tomatoes, deseeded
and chopped
2 tbsp Greek yoghurt
4 tbsp Fresh coriander, chopped
1,5 tbsp Garlic, pressed
1 tbsp Ginger paste
2-3 small green chillis, chopped
-2 tbsp lemon juice
-1/4 food colouring red (optional)
-6 tbsp butter
Spices:
1 tsp Kashmir chili powder (alternatively paprika powder medium hot)
1 tsp salt or as per taste
1/4 tl black pepper
1/2 tl chilli powder (more or less as desired - half tsp is hot - so use a quarter only if you don’t like it hot)
1.5 tsp garram Masala
1,5 tsp Coriander seeds, roasted and ground
1,5 tsp Cumin seeds roasted and ground
1/2 tsp Turmeric, ground
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Heat oil in a pan, add garlic and ginger paste. Fry them on medium heat. Add half of the chopped tomatoes. Mash the tomatoes. Simmer for 3-4 minutes. Add spices and mix well. Add the chicken, food color and lemon juice and mix well. Simmer for another 3-4 minutes. Now add yoghurt and mix well. Cover pan with either a lid or aluminium foil. Now cook the chicken for 10 minutes at medium heat. The chicken should be well cooked by now. Then uncover and cook for a few minutes on a high flame until the chicken is no longer so watery. Then add butter and remaining fresh coriander.
You can now eat the yummy tawa chicken and enjoy it either with a fork or protein bread. Usually one eats it Roti or Naan.
